Before transformation, this national filmmuseum was a dark and closed environment. It also had a lot of problems in conservating the vast collection of historic pellicule films. In becoming Cinematek, a general plan was conceived. This lightened up the whole museum and an opening was made to Bozar-Centre for Fine Arts, next door. All this with the greatest respect for the original architecture of Henry Van de Velde. Also the scenography was an essential part. Cinematek had to give place to a big material collection of historic movie memorabilia.
